I also enjoy the challenge of mobile operating although I no longer own own this vehicle. My mobile station consisted of a Yaesu FT857d and a full compliment of mono-band whips for each band I like to work (160-6mtrs). For the 2mtr & 70cms bands I use a high-gain dual band colinear by Sharmann. Although in my experiance what I gain in actuall gain I lose in whip flutter, very much a case of half a dozen of one and six of another.
Best I keep a look out for low bridges.
As you can see I have the facia panel seperated from the radio itself by the seperation kit. The object behind the facia is a Yaesu r/f shielded speaker.
Rather than use a handheld microphone I use a Watson boom mic with a remote ptt on the centre console.
The transceiver is mounted to the rear door along side the Yaesu FC40 atu which is controlled by the rig. Also visible is the various clamp on ferrite clamps to prevent r/f feedback. Now all I need is some decent propagation.
