A brief history of how I got interested in amateur radio

I had my appetite wet for amatuer radio by G4HVC our form tutor at the school I attended in the early 1980's, he put on a demonstration and later went on to start a radio club with in the school. I have owned a number of communication receivers starting with a Heathkit Mohican GC1A, Trio JR310, and a Kenwood R2000, along with a scanner for vhf-uhf.

Since the age of 10 it has been my ambition to become a radio amateur and on the 8th of May 2004 I gained my foundation licence. In between operating as much as possible using my call M3VUU I was studying for the intermediate exam which I passed a year later in May 2005. In September a radio ham friend of mine 2E0LUY took and passed the advanced exam, which was just the motivation I needed.

And so thanks to Lucy now M0LUY and Tony G8YMW I took the advanced exam on the 8th of October 2006 along with my xyl Karyn. Those five weeks waiting for the results were the longest 5 weeks of my life, I had passed and so had Karyn.

I have been a member of the Lincoln Shortwave Club since May 2004 one of the oldest clubs in the UK which now meets out at Aisthorpe just north of Lincoln, and is regulaly attened by enthusiasts of all levels.

Recently I have joined the Finningley amateur radio society the club is very well attended at their excellant club house on Belton Road Sandtoft North Lincs. Their main club night is Tuesdays 7till 9pm. It is also very popular on Saturdays seeing many members and visitors throughout the day my self included. The club is approximatly 45 miles from my qth in Waddington, Lincoln in IO93RE.

The great thing about amateur radio is how neatly it fits in with my other hobby of owning a millitary Landrover fully equipt with authentic transceivers and associated equipment. Although I go into that subject at greater length else where on my website.
